Commis Chef / Chef de Partie

We are currently looking for a talented Commis Chef or Chef de Partie to support us in continuing to grow our business at The Navigation, within the philosophies outlined below and on the rest of the website.

The Navigation Inn is a historical village pub set by the Montgomery Canal in the village of Maesbury Marsh between Shrewsbury and Oswestry.  It has a terrific reputation for food catering from 'special occasion' bookings through to regular weekly diners.  Sunday lunches are extremely popular.

Our key food philosophies are:

  • Locally sourced produce from ethically farmed animals.
  • Fish from sustainable supplies.
  • Side seasonal vegetable dishes from local farms.
  • Menus offering good, wholesome, home prepared (wherever possible) traditional pub food such as pies, gammon, steaks, mussels, fish & chips, Sunday roasts etc.  We also offer an imaginative a la carte menu.
  • We do not consider our food to be 'pub grub'; on the other hand we do not wish to portray ourselves as too upmarket in these price sensitive times. Much as we are not great fans of the term, 'Gastropub' probably comes closest to who and what we are.

If you agree with our ethics we want to hear from you.

The Commis Chef / Chef de Partie that we recruit will:

  • Be passionate about quality food
  • Ideally have a variety of experience across all kitchen aspects, although specialisations are welcome
  • Be able to work in a small team, and cope well under pressure
  • Support the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen work
  • Deputise for the Head Chef in his absence
  • Be personable and outgoing
  • Be willing to contribute thoughts and ideas to the ongoing development and evolution of the menus
  • Have own transport!

We would expect to average around 60 covers at the weekend and it is vitally important that you are fully competent in service, mis-en-plas in place, ego and temper firmly left outside the door!

Salary will be according to experience.
